UD from zip and IIS : Internal Error 500

Hi,

I’ve tried to reinstall the Windows2019 core server to test again and validate my own documentation wich try to describe how to deploy powershell universal in IIS website from ZIP source as described (cf. Failed to install MSI WinServer2019 Core )

• I’ve got an Internal Error 500 when i try to access to the homepage.
• In IIS Manager, when i tried to select some modules, an error is displayed :

Filename MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST/Powershel Universal

without any description for the error …

By the way, when i register and start the Windows Service, it works on port 5000. IIS configuration seems to be in cause.

Before reinstalling the server, i tried to install the MSI without success. But i remember that files where updated on %PROGRAMDATA% instead of D:\data\Universal\www (in my case). Do the MSI have succeeded to install some dependencies before failing in my previous tries ?

Do i need to customize the default database location via the PowerShell Universal appsettings.json ?

I’ve read 502.5 error - Can't get UDDashboard running in IIS and do i need to install/use Import-Module UniversalDashboard.Community ?
I really tried to resolve it by mysef but it seems that i need some help.

Can you check the event viewer application log? It seems like IIS is not even starting Universal for some reason.

I take a look on Application logs on the event viewer.
As you can see, i refer only to the last 11 minutes after rebooting it.

That’s strange that it’s not reporting an errors.

Do you have some time to do a Zoom call to look at this together? It might be quicker to get it up and running.

It is certainly a bad configuration of IIS or something else that i have mistaken and i don’t really want to get your time loss …

But yes, no problem to try a call even if i’m a french guy and that you’ll have to talk very slowly ^^

After a little search, i take a look here : HTTP Error 500.19 on Internet Information Services (IIS) webpages - Internet Information Services | Microsoft Learn and it says :

### Cause for HResult code 0x8007000d

This problem occurs because the  *ApplicationHost.config*  file or the  *Web.config*  file contains a malformed XML element.

I’ve tried with the web.config with a fresh install and mine with no success :

You may need to clear your web browser’s cache if you are getting blank pages.

As for the IIS settings, I think we really need to do a Zoom call to get to the bottom of this. It sounds like you’ve followed the steps as per the documentation so I’m not exactly sure what else we would need to configure.

My wife is fluent in French and English so we can have her help out as well

But, i’m still unable to access dashboards from a browser …

I wonder if the Core version of Windows Server is in cause or if it is anything else …

EDIT : I reinstall a fresh UniversalDashboard 1.3.1 from zip and i can log in with IIS
